The original members were: Dave Somerville who was Lead vocalist, Ted Kowalski who was a Tenor, Phil Levitt was Baritone and Bill Reed was Bassist. By their bbeautiful lyrics, video, music and performance the got good fan base.

Dave Somerville was working as a sound engineer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto, Canada in 1953. In a Christmas, the group has to sing a song for a Christmas party at a local church but unfortunately the date was conflicted with studies for a law exam of Stan Fisher who was the lead singer so Fisher decided to quit because he needed the study time. Since Somerville knew all the songs, he took Fisher’s place. The audience reaction for Dave with the music group was marvelous. So the music group had decided to keep Dave with their band and they asked Fisher to stay with the law school. Then Dave became the lead vocalist from there the music band “The Diamond” were born.

The music band’s first song recording with the Mercury Records was "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," which was the cover of Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers’s version. They also covered songs by such black groups as The Clovers, The Willows and The Heartbeats.The music album”Little Darlin” was the music band’s biggest hit record in 1957s. It was originally recorded by the “The Gladiolas”. In 1958 “The Stroll” song was not used as a cover but it was an original song which was written by the music group “Clyde Otis”. The group sang the song "Little Darlin'" and "Where Mary Go" in the movie, "The Big Beat", and also sang the theme song for another film, "Kathy-O".

In the year of 1961 the former that is original members were left the music group and it were replaced with the new members. In some period the naming conflicts were arrised because of two music groups were used the same name. But the court settled the case to the original musical band. Then the legal announced that the original Diamons’s name allowed to use the name for several years. The music band received the invitation to sing in TJ Lubinsky’s PBS production of “Do-Wop 51” in 2000 and again in the PBS production entitled “Magic Moments-The Best Of ‘50s Pop songs” in 2004.

The music album in 1956 “Why do fools fall in love” which peaked the top at 12th position in Billboard as a hit song. Their music innovations creates more attractive attentions with the people. In such a way they have introduced the “The stroll” song which debuts the hit songs in the music album and also ranked for 4 in Billboard. The Canadian Juno "Hall of Fame" award was given by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in 1984.
