Nat King Cole’s mother name was Perlina. She played musical organs in the church. Thus from her mother Nat King Cole learned to play the musical instruments. He learned the music from his mother before going for formal music classes. At the age of four Nat King Cole started his first music performance. He was trained on jazz music, gospel music, and also European classical music. His first song was “Yes, We Have No Bananas”. He took part in Walter Dyett's well known music program at DuSable High School. Nat King Cole started his music career at teen age. His elder brother Eddie Coles, coupled with Nat’s music band. He was a bass player. They recorded their first music in the year 1936.

Nat Cole and other musicians coupled togather and formed the music band "King Cole Swingers" in Long Beach. The personel from the musical band are Nat Cole, Oscar Moore and Wesley Prince. Nat Cole played on the music instrument piano, Oscar Moore featured on the music instrument guitar, and Wesley Prince played on the music instrument double bass. The music band recorded many radio song transcriptions in the year 1930’s. At world war II, Wesley Prince quited the music band he was replaced with Johnny Miller. Latter Miller too quited the music band and he was replaced with Charlie Harris. Nat Cole tiedup with Capitol Records.

He featured many pop related songs and some of the famous hit songs were "The Christmas Song", "Nature Boy" in 1948, "Mona Lisa" in 1950, "Too Young" (the No.1 song in 1951). The song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard music Albums chart in 1965. He was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990, and in 1997 was introduced into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame. In 2007, he was inducted into the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.
